Simply Fortran for GNU/Linux Now Available
Posted on Jan. 12, 2016
Approximatrix is happy to announce the release of Simply Fortran for GNU/Linux! This initial release for GNU/Linux systems is packaged for installation on Debian, Ubuntu, and compatible systems running on either Intel/AMD 32- or 64-bit architectures. The integrated development environment relies on your distribution's Fortran compiler and debugger, making the installer considerably smaller than, for example, our Windows installer.
The current integrated development environment feature set is generally equivalent to our Windows version. Some work remains to be completed, namely editor panels, project searching via regular expressions, quick search, and element searching based on subprogram/element type. Otherwise, all features our users expect, including our advanced editing features and automatic Fortran dependency management, are included with this initial GNU/Linux release.
Moving forward, Approximatrix plans to complete all missing features in the GNU/Linux version to achieve feature parity with our Windows version. Furthermore, packaging for RPM-based distributions is forthcoming. Finally, an ARM release compatible with Raspberry Pi systems should be available shortly. In the future, because Simply Fortran releases for Windows and GNU/Linux are based on the same code base, new features will be added to both platforms.
We encourage all users, both new and existing, to try Simply Fortran for GNU/Linux for free for 30 days. If Simply Fortran for GNU/Linux meets your needs, please consider registering Simply Fortran to ensure its ongoing development.
